Efficient Reflection with Semi-White Coated Carbon Fiber Heating Tubes

1. Overview of Carbon Fiber Heater Elements:

Carbon fiber heater elements utilize transparent quartz tubes as protective enclosures within a vacuum environment. When the carbon fiber heating filament is electrified, it generates infrared and far-infrared radiation, which is uniformly emitted in all directions. However, in most applications, the heating tube is placed on one side of the product rather than having the product encircle the heating tube. This raises the question: Is the infrared radiation emitted from the other side of the heating tube wasted? How can we effectively utilize the energy carried by this portion of the infrared radiation?

To address this, the industry has attempted to alter the direction of infrared radiation from carbon fiber heating tubes using reflectors. While this method achieves some success, the reflection efficiency is relatively low, with only about 40% of the infrared radiation being reflected. Moreover, the cost of reflectors is high.

2. Cost-Effective Solution for Enhancing Infrared Reflection:

So, how can we achieve a better infrared reflection effect at a lower cost?

Here, we introduce a low-cost treatment method for heating tubes that achieves a reflection efficiency of up to 70%. This method involves coating the outer quartz tube of the heating element with a reflective layer, effectively turning one side of the quartz tube into a mirror. This mirror reflects the infrared and far-infrared radiation emitted by the carbon fiber heating filament back to the opposite side. By doing so, the direction of infrared radiation from the heating tube can be partially altered, reducing infrared losses and thereby improving the heating efficiency.

3. How Semi-White Coated Heating Tubes Reflect Infrared Radiation:

Let’s briefly explain how semi-white coated heating tubes reflect infrared radiation.

Firstly, a brief introduction to the principle of reflection in physical optics: Reflection is an optical phenomenon where light, upon encountering a different substance, changes its propagation direction at the interface and returns to the original medium. Light can be reflected off surfaces such as water, glass, and many other materials. When light changes direction at the interface between two different substances and returns to the original medium, this phenomenon is known as light reflection. In everyday life, the most common example of light reflection is the act of looking into a mirror.

A mirror is an optical component that uses a reflective surface to reflect light. There are typically three types of mirrors: plane mirrors, spherical mirrors, and aspherical mirrors. Depending on the degree of reflection, mirrors can be categorized into two types: total reflection and partial reflection (often referred to as a beam splitter).

Mirrors can also be classified based on their shape into spherical mirrors and plane mirrors. The reflective surface of a carbon fiber heating tube is spherical, making it a spherical mirror. If the center of curvature is on the side of the light-receiving surface, it is called a concave spherical mirror, or simply a concave mirror. Concave mirrors are converging mirrors, meaning that parallel light beams reflected by them converge at a single point known as the real focal point. If a point light source is placed at the real focal point, the light beams reflected by the mirror become parallel beams. In the case of a carbon fiber heating tube, the heating filament is positioned at the focal point, serving as an infrared radiation source. As a result, the infrared radiation emitted by the filament is reflected to form a parallel infrared light source, which allows for easier control of the infrared radiation direction.
